Position
Caighli is a criminal barrister who prosecutes and defends in both the Magistrates and the Crown Court. She also undertakes instructions to appear at inquests. She is a CPS panel advocate Grade 1 prosecutor, and also prosecutes for the Probation Service, G4S and the Home Office. Caighli has a particular interest in representing young defendants.
Career
Caighli studied Law at New College, Oxford University, before completing her BVC at Manchester Metropolitan University. Caighli joined the Crime Team in 2012, having successfully completed her pupillage at Guildhall Chambers.
Since joining Chambers as a tenant, Caighli has undertaken cases varying broadly in nature and complexity. She regularly defends and prosecutes in cases of serious violence, public disorder, drugs, fraud, theft, robbery, burglary, road traffic offences, arson, firearms and weapons, dangerous dogs, perverting the course of justice and indecent images.
Caighli is often instructed in cases involving a party with particular vulnerabilities including mental health issues. As such she has experience and expertise in mental health in the context of the criminal justice system. She is regularly instructed to defend young and vulnerable clients facing serious charges.
She has been instructed as junior counsel in the high profile prosecution of thirteen men who were convicted of the rape and abuse of teenage girls. Caighli handled the extensive disclosure in this case and dealt with sensitive material and PII issues.
Caighli is a CPS Grade 3 Prosecutor. She also receives instructions from Probation, the Welfare Rural and Health Division, UK Border Agency and the Home Office. She has experience of both prosecuting and defending in the Youth Court.
