John practises in all areas of crime and business crime.

Position

John is regularly instructed both to prosecute and defend in the most serious types of criminal cases, including murder, rape and other sexual offences, human trafficking and other types of serious organised crime. John also has vast experience in complex fraud cases, both as trial advocate and as disclosure counsel.

Described by Lord Justice Golding as showing “conspicuous ability” in terms of both his oral and written advocacy [R v Roberts (Neil Daniel)] [2011] EWCA Crim 2974], John combines a natural aptitude inside the courtroom with diligence and acumen.

Career

John was called to the Bar in 2004. Level 3 Advocate on the CPS Panel of Approved Counsel. Level 3 Specialist Fraud Advocate on the CPS panel of approved counsel.

Business Crime & Financial Regulation

An understanding of the intricacies involved in complex fraud (including MTIC fraud, VAT and Excise Fraud) has led to John being instructed in high-value fraud cases both for the prosecution and defence. John’s ability to master the factual details of document-heavy cases is complemented by his fluency in the relevant law.

John is acutely aware of the need for the early involvement of counsel in these types of cases, as well as the capacity to work as part of a team.
