Position

Amy is a versatile and intellectually able barrister. Her practice includes:

prosecuting and defending in a wide range of criminal cases, appearing for registrants and regulators in professional disciplinary hearings, representing requested persons in extradition proceedings and in INTERPOL matters, family court proceedings, public law, including data protection, education law, in particular disciplinary matters at fee-paying schools.

Amy's recent cases include:

representing a pharmacist in criminal proceedings in the Crown Court, securing a finding of no case to answer against a nurse accused of dishonestly covering up a serious clinical error advising a local authority on prosecutions under the Protection from Eviction Act 1977, representing a GP in GMC proceedings before the Medical Practitioners Tribunal (MPTS), prosecuting complex fitness to practise matters before the Nursing and Midwifery Council, securing the return of a student ordered to leave a major public school on disciplinary grounds.

Career

Amy was called to the Bar in 2017 CPS Advocate Panel Member Grade 2. Government Legal Department, Junior Junior scheme.

Amy had a varied and successful career before coming to the Bar, including working as an adviser to a Member of Parliament for 5 years, and conducting research into the reform of the Official Secrets Acts for the Law Commission.

Family, Children & International Family

Amy has a growing family law practice. In private law proceedings, she has acted for both applicants and respondents in child arrangement order cases, and in respect of occupation/non-molestation orders. Amy has acted in applications to remove children from the jurisdiction and in applications for transfer of tenancy under the Family Law Act 1996.

In public law matters, Amy has acted in Care Order cases and matters touching upon Special Guardianship Orders.

Extradition & International

In her extradition practice, Amy represents clients at all stages of proceedings at Westminster Magistrates Court and advises on appeals to the High Court.

Amy is currently instructed in a political corruption case as junior to Ben Keith.

Amy is experienced in advising and making submissions to INTERPOL in respect of Red Notices and diffusions.

Criminal Defence

Amy defends clients in the Magistrates, Youth, and Crown Courts. Her case experience includes a wide range of offences, including violence, drugs, and fraud.

Amy is a barrister who is experienced in dealing with young or otherwise vulnerable defendants. She has completed specialist training in youth court advocacy, and in handling vulnerable witnesses. She is skilled at enabling defendants to give their best evidence.

Amy is experienced in representing regulated professionals in criminal proceedings. She can advise on the regulatory consequences of decisions taken during criminal proceedings.

Amy has also acted for parents facing prosecution under the Education Act 1996.

Criminal Prosecutions - Private & Public

Amy is regularly instructed to prosecute for the Crown Prosecution Service. She is a member of the CPS Grade 2 Advocate Panel. Amy is experienced in prosecuting on behalf of other bodies, including local authorities, Royal Mail, and the Insolvency Service.
