Position

James has specialised throughout his career in serious and complex crime: the more complexity the better. He both prosecutes and defends. He relishes cases with high levels of legal, factual, commercial and medical technicality, and sensitivity. James specialises in expert evidence, including commercial, medical and scientific issues. He regularly appears for both the Prosecution and the Defence, throughout England. He appears principally before High Court judges, and also in the Appellate courts. He is committed and enthusiastic in any case he undertakes, enjoying hard work and high standards. He is also enthusiastic for complex paperwork, and is frequently instructed in the designing and creation of computer graphical presentations for courts and juries. He has sat as a Recorder for over 20 years, and has presided over long and complex cases.

James’ current practice consists in a series of serious and high-profile trials, principally of murder, gross negligence manslaughter, health and safety, and fraud, regularly with multiple defendants. He also has a substantial advisory practice in these fields. His most recent cases include an eight-month commercial fraud trial and several multi-defendant murder trials.
