Position

Nathan Wells has a wide ranging Chancery practice, which includes wills and trusts, probate and administration of estates, real property, charities, commercial and residential landlord and tenant and bankruptcy law. He is also regularly involved in general commercial litigation and has considerable experience of litigation involving local authorities. His practice includes contentious and non-contentious work. He appears regularly in the High Court and in County Courts throughout the country and he has also acted in a number of appeals, including appeals before the House of Lords and the Privy Council. He writes and lectures on his main areas of practice.

Career

Qualified 2000, Lincoln’s Inn; research assistant, Law Commission (property and trust team) 1998-99; judicial assistant to the President of the Family Division (October-December 2001); judicial assistant to the Vice-Chancellor (January-March 2002). Publications: ‘Tolley’s Practitioners’ Guide to Powers and Duties of Trustees’ (2002), joint author. He has also taught Land Law as a weekend tutor in Oxford. Cases include: London Diocesan Fund v Phithwa (Avonridge Property Co Limited, Part 20 defendant) [2005] 1 WLR 236 (CA); [2005] 1 WLR 3956 (HL); Owers v Bailey [2006] 103 (39) LSG 34; Creque v Penn [2007] UK PC 44; 70 WIR 150; Shaw v Lighthousexpress Ltd [2010] EWCA Civ 161; Ferneley v Napier [2011] WTLR 1303; Green v Eadie [2012] Ch 363; University of London v Prag [2014] EWHC 3564 (Ch).
