Position

Gary Lidington specialises in the full range of commercial, commercial chancery and property disputes, including related professional negligence disputes, both in the English Courts and in arbitration. His practice includes sale and supply of goods and services, banking and financial services, partnership, company and insolvency, commercial agency and insurance matters, much of which has a strong fraud or multi-jurisdictional element.  His property practice traverses the full range of landlord and tenant and real property matters.  He has a growing and successful Oil and Gas practice.   He is known for his practical, commercially-minded and client focused approach.

Career

Notable recent cases include: BP Oil International Limited v Bankers Petroleum Albania Limited ($54M breach of oil supply contract); a $440M UNCITRAL arbitration in the oil industry; Tullow Heritage Ltd v Heritage Oil & Gas Limited [2013] EWHC 1656 ($303M indemnity claim); Bank of Scotland v Pereira [2011] EWCA Civ 241 (leading authority on setting aside judgment/appealing when a party does not turn up to trial); acting for an IT services provider in a dispute arising out of $1Bn government contract; Close Invoice Finance Ltd v Pile [2009] 1 FLR 873 (relevance of Art 8 ECHR to charging order enforcement); Dartmouth Court Blackheath Ltd v Berisworth Ltd [2008] EWHC 350.
