Position
Extensive High Court and County Court experience representing claimants and healthcare professionals (including GPs, dentists, hospital doctors, psychiatrists, nurses); cases include Das v Ganju [1999] Lloyds Rep Medical 198, a court of Appeal limitation decision, and Greenfield v Irwin [2001] 1 WLR 1279, a Court of Appeal decision concerning the impact of the Human Rights Act 1998 on claims for damages for unwanted births. Particular trial and advisory experience of high value brain damaged baby cases. Healthcare law: Tribunal work includes disciplinary matters in the GMC and GDC, inquiries into practitioner’s clinical competence and conduct, appeals to the Secretary of State against decisions relating to GP job vacancies and discrimination and other healthcare related employment cases. Representation of families, doctors and NHS trusts at inquests; also advisory work in relation to confidentiality and disclosure of records. Personal injury: extensive trial and advisory work for both claimants and defendants; particular emphasis on industrial accidents/manual handling injuries in the hospital context. Many appearances at the CICB. Employment: regular appearances in the Employment Tribunal, particularly race, sex, disability discrimination, unfair dismissal and redundancy. Firm commitment to pro bono work.
