Position
Edward specialises in police law, public law and medical law. Edward advises and represents many of the police forces in the country in a wide variety of civil actions. He has represented the police in both jury and judge-only trials and has acted in a variety of interim matters. Edward has a particular interest in professional misconduct cases and has appeared as the presenting officer in police misconduct cases involving allegations of dishonesty and breach of confidentiality. Furthermore, Edward has undertaken a wide range of general advisory work, including operational advice to police forces on matters such as the implementation of new legislation and the disclosure obligations in civil and family litigation. Edward regularly acts for families, NHS Trusts and other statutory bodies at inquests around the country. Edward has particular interest in inquests held under Art 2 ECHR investigating deaths in police or prison custody and deaths of detained patients in psychiatric hospitals. Edward also has experience in advising on a wide range of international legal issues including International Criminal and Humanitarian Law. Edward has previously worked as a consultant on variety of legal projects at the United Nations Headquarters as well as in Bahrain, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Morocco and Kenya.
