Position

Extensive experience in trials involving civil and criminal jurisdictions, as well as a busy advisory practice in all areas. Mainly practices in the regulatory field, defending doctors, dentists and pharmacists in disciplinary work at the General Medical Council; General Dentist Council and General Pharmaceutical Council respectively, police misconduct cases and appears for hospitals and doctors at inquests as well as at internal disciplinary hearings. Substantial criminal experience of over 30 years (including as a Grade 4 prosecutor taking leading briefs in murder, fraud and sexual offences cases) used in defending healthcare professionals against criminal charges. Clinical negligence and personal injury practice covers both claimant and defendant work. Leading cases include: Monibi v GMC (2014) – dishonesty in regulatory cases; Re Shaw (2014) – Inquest bias; R v Bell [2010] EWCA Crim CA – double jeopardy, Chaaban v R (2003) C.L.R 658 CA – precursor to case management. Also experience of representing directors in directors disqualification proceedings.
