Career

Laura joined Chambers in October 2017 following the successful completion of her pupillage under the supervision of James Hurd.

Laura undertook a specialist employment pupillage with a particular emphasis on complex Employment Tribunal litigation, involving issues such as discrimination, TUPE, redundancy and whistleblowing.

She has regularly appeared in the Employment Tribunal acting for Claimants and Respondents in both preliminary and final hearings. Laura is also able to provide drafting and advisory services in all areas of employment disputes. 

During the course of her pupillage, Laura's experience has included:

Representing over one hundred Claimants at a preliminary hearing in a claim for unlawful deduction from wages against an international infrastructure company. Drafting the Grounds of Complaint and advising on prospects of success in a claim for constructive unfair dismissal and pregnancy discrimination following the Claimant’s resignation from her employment after the birth of her child. Successfully securing an ET1 amendment namely the addition of an out of time complaint of disability discrimination Acting for the Claimant in a multi-day hearing involving claims of unfair dismissal, disability discrimination and wrongful dismissal. Settlement was secured on the first day of the hearing.

In addition, Laura is developing a broad personal injury practice and receives regular instructions for Small Claims, Stage 3 hearings, Infant Settlements, disposals and applications.

Prior to commencing pupillage, Laura worked within the property team of an internationally renowned law firm and served as one of the youngest Magistrates in the country.

During her final year of university, Laura was instrumental in founding the Nottingham Law School Mooting Club and had primary responsibility for delivering the extra-curricular mooting programme. She was awarded the Vice Chancellors Award in 2013, for her outstanding contribution to the Law School.
