How do you manage legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis, and how do you align your legal strategy with the overall business strategy to ensure organisational resilience?

Considering the rapidly changing market conditions we are facing, and those yet to come, it is crucial to think ahead, remain curious, eager to learn, and be proactive to ensure that any agreement, contract, or strategy established today will still be beneficial or feasible in the future. Particularly in the tech industry, in-house counsels must offer creative alternatives and ‘think outside the box to tackle present and future challenges.

In our role as corporate counsel, it is vital to be business-oriented, working closely with the sales and marketing teams to fully understand business plans and become involved in every step, from the early stages of negotiation and planning, to ensure the legal strategy facilitates those plans while keeping them safe in the long run. Especially during times of crisis and economic change, we must act as strategic partners to the commercial team, collaborating with them to drive the sustained growth of the business.

Which emerging technologies do you believe will have the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay informed about these developments?

Undoubtedly, AI will impact not only the legal profession but also many aspects of business in general. The true extent of AI’s impact remains uncertain and difficult to fully comprehend, but its use and proper implementation will undoubtedly be essential in the coming years.

With the widespread adoption of AI, it will also become necessary for countries to establish regulatory frameworks that govern, protect, and, in some cases, limit the use of such tools. It is crucial to stay informed about international regulations on this matter because, although local regulations may still be far from adequately addressing existing technologies, regional and global trends will eventually be considered in local laws. This gives us an opportunity to proactively prepare our business operations and working methods to align AI usage with international standards, ensuring its proper integration into the company’s day-to-day activities without engaging in practices that could be seen as a legal liability.
