Legal and GR senior manager | Mercado Libre Colombia
Alejandro Jose Noguera Gutierrez
Legal and GR senior manager | Mercado Libre Colombia
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
As part of Mercado Libre’s leadership team, we conducted a comprehensive assessment of potential risks and impacts. Based on this, we build solutions in collaboration with other teams within the organisation and consolidate joint work plans that allow us to neutralise the negative effects of the crisis to ensure business continuity. I would like to emphasise that both the execution of the company’s business plan and its organisational structure are based on our cultural and leadership principles. These principles drive us daily to perform with excellence, compete as a united team to achieve success and create value for our users. Mercado Libre is more than just a job; it is the exhilarating experimentation of entrepreneurship, surpassing personal limits, and taking pride in our work and the impact our company’s activities have in each of the countries where we operate.
What are the main cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?
In collaboration with other teams within the company, we have led the articulation of senior management programs focused on training entrepreneurs to contribute to the country’s digital transformation. These efforts are coordinated with national, departmental, and municipal public entities, as well as chambers, guilds, and local universities. On our platform, SMEs and entrepreneurs unlock their potential, collaborating with their environment through their transformative energy. We are great generators of opportunities, facilitators of thousands of businesses and entrepreneurs, and protagonists of the country’s economic development.
Our team provided support for the definition and execution of a strategy that seeks to structure a logistics network that unites various operators in the transportation industry. This network generates value for our users with storage and distribution centers, our own and partner fleets, collection points, and free shipping, all designed to enhance delivery process efficiency. As a result, we expect that over 30 million Colombians will be able to receive their purchases made through Mercado Libre between 24 and 48 hours.
How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?
For Mercado Libre, it is a priority to promote diversity, equity and inclusion. We seek to create increasingly plural teams that complement each other through different profiles. In the case of the legal team, women play a fundamental leadership role both nationally and regionally. I believe that their participation at all levels of the organization has contributed to aspects of innovation, the sustainable growth of the company and their progressive inclusion in the areas of information and communication technologies.
