What significant projects or deals has the legal team worked on in the past year? Can you provide examples of successful outcomes or major accomplishments?

Our legal team’s focus is closely aligned with the company’s business strategy. Over the past year, we played a key role in completing more than £600 million in disposals, letting major office schemes, and advancing retail destinations. We were also pivotal in progressing new projects in our development pipeline. Among the highlights was the letting of Lucent, a significant development behind the iconic Piccadilly Lights, as well as the successful disposal of our £400 million hotel portfolio. These projects reflect our team’s integral contribution to the company’s ongoing growth and operational success.

Can you sum up the team culture/ethos in one sentence? How is this developed?

Our team ethos can be summed up as “calm and reliable expertise.” We are known for getting things done, whether it’s de-risking large development schemes, closing vital letting deals, or supporting capital markets activities. The team’s deep legal experience—each member has over 20 years of experience, much of it in-house—gives us a unique understanding of the business. This expertise enables us to effectively guide the company through complex transactions with confidence and precision.

Are there any team members with expertise in niche areas that are critical to the company’s operations?

In our small team, each member has developed specialised expertise. Shelley Peston, recently promoted to Deputy Head of Legal, focuses almost exclusively on office developments and lettings. Ian Petts and Tim Cooper possess extensive knowledge in retail leasing, with Tim taking a leading role in industry initiatives to standardise lease models. Jessica Martin brings unmatched expertise in urban redevelopment, which she honed during her time at Capco and U+I, the latter of which was acquired by Landsec in 2021. Each of these specialisms plays a critical role in driving the company’s strategic priorities forward.
