How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

As an in-house lawyer, I don’t restrict myself to providing legal services; my work takes a more comprehensive, global approach. My strategy for managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises is built on proactive risk management and a strong alignment with the wider business strategy.

What are the main cases or transactions that you have been involved in recently?

The primary transactions I have been involved in recently are the acquisitions of companies in Brazil and the USA. These strategic acquisitions have significantly contributed to the growth and expansion of our company in Latin America and the USA, thereby strengthening our product portfolio.

How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?

Diversity and inclusion are extremely important to me, and I am fully committed to these values, as is the company. We focus on raising awareness and training our internal community, creating spaces for reflection and open dialogue. Our efforts range from communications aimed at emphasising the importance of inclusion to developing guides that assist our subsidiaries in addressing these issues respectfully and comprehensively. We have reaffirmed our commitment to fostering a safe and welcoming work environment for all individuals. As Head of the Legal Department, I support these initiatives and provide the necessary guidance for their implementation.

What do you see as the major legal challenges for businesses in Uruguay over the next five years, and how are you preparing to address them?

Uruguay needs to make significant progress regarding administrative processes. The pharmaceutical industry, in particular, is heavily regulated and requires improvements in the timelines for formal procedures to achieve better time-to-market outcomes. We address these challenges by anticipating requirements and ensuring that all documentation is in order to effectively respond to requests from various agencies.
