How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?  

During periods of instability, my approach focuses on proactive risk management and strategic alignment with the company’s objectives. I prioritise thorough risk assessments, identifying potential legal exposures, and implementing robust compliance frameworks. This involves close collaboration with other departments to ensure a unified response that supports the organisation’s resilience. 

Our legal strategy is designed to align with the fiduciary’s business strategy by emphasising flexibility and adaptability, as forceable within a rigid regulatory framework. We establish contingency plans and maintain open communication channels with regulatory bodies, particularly the Central Bank of Uruguay, to stay ahead of changes in regulation and ensure compliance. 

Additionally, we focus on maintaining investor confidence through transparency and effective communication. By providing clear and timely updates, we ensure that our clients are well-informed and reassured about the stability and security of their investments. This customer-centric approach not only mitigates legal risks but also reinforces the organisation’s overall resilience and builds trust in times of uncertainty. Our primary asset in the market we operate in is the trust of our clients, and maintaining this trust is crucial during challenging times.

What do you see as the major legal challenges for businesses in Uruguay over the next five years, and how are you preparing to address them? 

One of the biggest challenges for businesses in Uruguay over the next five years will be keeping up with rapid technological advancements, especially in blockchain and generative AI. These technologies will transform many industries, and the fast pace of these changes requires businesses to adapt quickly to stay competitive. 

To address these challenges, we are actively exploring the integration of blockchain to enhance transparency and security in our transactions and generative AI to improve our analytical capabilities and operational efficiency. By staying at the forefront of these technological advancements, we aim to streamline our processes, reduce costs, and enhance our service offerings.
