What are the main cases or transactions that you have been involved in recently?

I am currently working on the international public tender no. LP 26-2022 called by the Ministry of the Interior for the development of a rehabilitation centre with three units for the internment of persons deprived of liberty.

In this sense, three new modules will be built on the grounds of Libertad Prison (one of the most important prisons with the largest number of inmates in the country), through a public-private participation contract that was assigned to the Consortium UIPPL Libertad Sociedad Anónima made up of three Uruguayan companies, one of which is the organisation in which I am working.

The project will oversee the design, construction, financing and operation of the rehabilitation units.

One of the main cases or transactions in which I am involved is the “Arazatí Project”. The purpose of this project is to use the Río de la Plata as a source of water for drinking water treatment and supply in Montevideo. It involves the construction of a water intake, a water treatment plant in the department of San José, a pumping station and an 80 km long pipeline.

The project also includes the construction of a site for the final disposal of the dehydrated sludge generated because of the purification process. The investment is undoubtedly the largest in the country in this area in the last 150 years.

SACEEM is also working on a project in the town of Valenzuela, Paraguay, which involves the construction of a new power transformation substation and the sectioning of 500 kV and 220 kV power transmission lines.

The importance of the project is that it will become the most important infrastructure in Paraguay, allowing, for the first time, 100% of the energy generated by the Itaipu binational hydroelectric power plant to be available.

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?

In coordination with other areas of the company, we decided to initiate a process of implementation of electronic signature. We are confident that its implementation will allow us to streamline processes and reduce the time required to sign contracts and documents.

SACEEM, being a leading company in the market, and given its activity (engineering and construction), signs more than 1000 contracts and documents per year.

We believe that the implementation of this practice will allow us to reduce the use of paper, which has a positive impact not only in terms of costs and time, but also by reducing the amount of paper.

As a leading engineering company, our objective is to prevent pollution, minimise adverse effects on the environment and conserve natural resources. To this end, we adapt the environmental management of our activities to the best practices. The commitments we have assumed tend to promote environmental protection by implementing practices aimed at minimising impacts and managing environmental aspects. Likewise, we ensure compliance with the legal and regulatory requirements of the organisation, as well as those established by customers and interested parties.
