What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?  

My legal team has been involved in several significant transactions, including restructuring our group’s financial debt and the global corporate restructuring of Alsea brands across Europe and Latin America. These efforts aim to simplify operations, increase Alsea’s profits, and strengthen our competitive advantages. These transactions include advising and negotiating complex agreements with franchisors, franchisees, and third parties.
Additionally, we have been involved in a complex arbitration in Argentina aimed at resolving operational problems arising from exchange restrictions in the country.

Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?    

As a result of the aforementioned transactions, we have implemented a weekly Zoom meeting between the legal teams of the countries in which our company operates. This initiative allows us to exchange best practices and create synergies to address the challenges we are facing and improve overall results.

Another cost-effective innovation was the creation of a platform, developed with the help of our IT department, to manage and track our labour disputes. This platform has enabled us to improve the management and outcomes of such claims by providing immediate access to organised information, which helps us develop better strategies.
We are also working to leverage this platform in our corporate area to organise all the information of our companies within the group, allowing for easier access and more efficient information management.

What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?  

For nearly nine years, I have been a law professor at the Universidad Panamericana. The reason behind this commitment is that I strongly believe it is our responsibility as professionals to share our experience with others in some way. By teaching, I aim to provide my students with the tools they need to face various challenges in their professional lives.

As a leader of my legal team, it is essential to share my experience and advice on different matters and transactions. This approach ensures they not only have the knowledge to solve problems but also understand why certain solutions are necessary. I believe this practice strengthens teamwork and positively impacts the company through the results achieved by our legal team.
