What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

During this past year, we have broadened our investments in the hospitality industry. We also just recently invested in a project consisting of the development of a luxury hotel in one of Mexico’s top beach destinations.

Raising a new fund, whose purpose will be focused on taking advantage of the nearshoring phenomena, in addition to the one raised last year, has been one of the most significant transactions my team has been recently involved.

Finally, there was the joint bid we did with Blackstone to acquire Terrafina. Regardless of the outcome, it was a great experience.

Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?   

Since the COVID lockdown when everyone was working remotely, the digitalisation of legal processes has accelerated. New legislation has been issued reflecting this. What me and my team have been trying to and been increasingly focusing on, is taking advantage of these developments. We have been adopting the use of different sorts of software that enables us to better handle the daily tasks of our legal department.

What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?

Business-related, I would say the general notion of ESG. I do believe in trying to mitigate our impact on the environment, contributing to society, and being accountable.

On a personal note, fighting poverty and improving the lives of children are causes that are close to my heart. There are some organisations dedicated to those purposes that I care about.
