Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

With fewer resources than typical legal teams in global companies, we are increasingly striving to do more with less. The strategy that has proven effective for me is evangelisation. By sharing knowledge and emphasising that ‘sharing is caring,’ I provide training on legal and compliance matters. I also explain the implications and how our actions impact daily operations and our life.

One of our most pressing challenges is ensuring Compliance reaches all company members, especially our blue-collar workers. These teams, composed of engineers specialising in the maintenance of large motors and mining equipment, are often on-site and not well-acquainted with corporate policies. We identified communication as the key and inspiration as the means, and there intangible values added on it (and no more costs than travel expenses and time invested). Through an ambassador program, we successfully enlisted more hands, ears, and voices to help spread the message of “doing the right thing.

What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?

I am deeply passionate about the pursuit of happiness, viewing it as a lifelong journey where intention is paramount. I believe that this philosophy is crucial, both personally and professionally, and I strive to integrate it into all aspects of my life, as a legal professional. My core values include equality, diversity and inspiring leadership.

I have had the privilege of contributing to several initiatives within the company, enriching my role beyond its legal and compliance scope. Some of my key contributions include:

Creating an annual conversation for International Women’s Day: This was the first event of its kind in our new organisation, aimed at fostering dialogue and awareness; serving as a rebranding ambassador: I emphasised that the most important asset of any organisation is its people. While “colour may be secondary”, and if we do like it, and it does indeed, the results can be extraordinary; establishing team happiness, as in response to the new post-pandemic reality and updated regulations in Mexico, we formed a multidisciplinary team to promote comprehensive employee well-being. This initiative provides access to a variety of resources, including gyms, mindfulness activities, meditation, nutrition, personal training, and general personal care tools.

Lastly, cheerleading and facilitating the digitalisation academy for women in mining in Mexico, a program, led by an ESG&S colleague at Innomotics, that aims to develop women in mining with essential capabilities, empowering them with more skills and promote their roles, particularly in technology.
