What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

It is never a dull day in Latin America! Over the past year, our legal team has been actively involved in several significant cases and transactions, particularly in creating and implementing a new business model and supporting the agency navigate through stormy waters with a couple of advertising clients undergoing financial reorganisation. Our team facilitated a collaborative approach to managing the provision of media services to advertising clients undergoing restructuring. This included renegotiating contract terms to accommodate reduced budgets and altered scopes without compromising the quality of deliverables. We balanced the need to protect our agency’s revenue and contractual rights with the goal of preserving a strong, long-term commercial relationship. By addressing these issues proactively and diplomatically, we were able to support our clients through their financial difficulties while ensuring that the agency’s interests remained secure and that the commercial partnerships were sustained. Another standout project was the development and implementation of a new business model in a major Latin America market. This involved structuring complex agreements to facilitate a new stream of revenue for our agency, ensuring compliance with local regulations.

Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?   

Within the legal team, we`re responsible for handling a wide range of legal matters, from contract negotiations to compliance issues and disputes. The team previously tracked these matters through a combination of email threads, spreadsheets, and manual notetaking, leading to inefficiencies, communication gaps, and difficulty in tracking the progress of each case. Recognising the need for a more efficient system, I proposed repurposing the agency’s existing customer relationship management (CRM) tool, which was primarily used by the sales and client service teams. This tool had powerful features that could be adapted for legal matter tracking, and since the agency already had a subscription, there was no additional cost involved.

What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why? 

I care deeply about promoting transparency, accountability, and security in data handling and privacy. In today’s digital landscape, vast amounts of personal information are collected and processed, making it crucial for organisations to manage this data responsibly. Transparency in how data is collected and used builds trust with clients, partners, and consumers, who are increasingly concerned about their privacy rights. Ensuring that data practices are clear and easily understood allows individuals to make informed decisions about their interactions with the agency.

Moreover, accountability and robust security measures are essential to protect against data breaches and misuse. By implementing strong data governance policies, agencies can hold themselves accountable for how data is managed and respond effectively to any issues that arise. Prioritising data security safeguards information, preventing unauthorised access and potential harm to individuals. Promoting these principles not only complies with legal regulations but also demonstrates an ethical commitment to respecting and protecting personal privacy, thereby fostering a culture of trust and integrity.
