What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Undoubtedly, the amount of legal reforms issued by Congress in recent years is a challenge in itself. The updating of a legal team and its ability to adapt are now fundamental needs. However, I could highlight a particular case: the restructuring of a company like JLL before the reform of outsourcing, as this change impacted not only those companies in the aforementioned sectors but also any entity that provides services in the facilities of a client under any modality.

We made changes to both our internal and external ways of working, which to date have allowed us to generate savings and continue growing in our lines of business. This has been a process of continuous improvement that does not end with obtaining authorisation to provide services from the authorities and is not limited to a corporate and contractual aspect. We now have more than 2,000 employees on our payroll, so support for our Human Resources area is a key point. Because of this, the position of the labour lawyer has taken on new prominence. The work of the corporate attorney should be one that is closer to human needs, thereby adding value and enabling a better understanding of the functioning of the business areas.

In this regard, I can say that the case of JLL in its line of business as a facilities manager is undoubtedly one of success. We have recently participated in the update and evaluation of our Registry of Specialized Service Providers or Specialized Works (REPSE), and I can confidently say that today, thanks to the restructuring we established, our customers have strong confidence that we are adapted to this new system. We are now more competitive and an option in the market that translates into quality and safety.

Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?   

I think the best example is something that we all know but rarely want to encourage. Today, to innovate is to seek strategies that keep our companies away from courts. Resolving disputes and generating savings through tools such as conciliation and mediation are options that, sadly, are little explored in our industry, but at JLL, we have successfully applied them, allowing us to avoid unnecessary litigation so that we can better focus on business needs.

I can proudly say that the incidence of litigation has decreased by 80% for the company since we have been addressing this issue.

What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why? 

Today, in a country with so many challenges for the private sector, our role must change. We must empower ourselves more as business allies and an investment for companies. The lawyer must be a factor that allows the company to generate more profits with legal strategies, of course, always within the law. For this, we must not stop encouraging specialisation and talent development. As professionals, we must grow with the entities we represent. This is not only a purely labour issue, but a matter of ethical quality.

We must be more attentive than ever to the changes being promoted by the government; in the end, the companies we represent and protect continue to be the great source of wealth in our country, and our work is also of a social nature.
