What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

I am the legal head of the company’s financing structures, overseeing private securitisations to finance the company’s credit products. This role involves designing appropriate legal structures, investment vehicles, agreements, and guarantees, as well as negotiating financing deals with leading American banks that incorporate both New York and Mexican law. This year, we successfully negotiated two cross-border private securitisations.

Additionally, I serve as the legal head for the treasury department, responsible for negotiating bilateral and syndicated loans with leading Mexican and American banks.

Furthermore, I am the legal head in charge of launching Mercado Pago’s credit card in 2023, and I am currently enhancing the product to position it as a leader in the fintech sector.

Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

It would be the systemised standard contracts for credit products and their new features. This implementation has reduced the workload for the legal team, enabling them to focus on strategic contracts, such as partnerships and new programmes with major brands to enhance the company’s products.

What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?

The democratisation of financial services throughout the country is providing a greater segment of the Mexican population with the opportunity to access various financial services and products responsibly, including savings accounts, investment products, personal loans, and credit cards.

Recently, I was offered the role of legal head for banking products at a leading Mexican bank in the fintech sector. However, the strong sense of purpose I find in Mercado Pago, its culture prioritising fair treatment of customers, and the key role of the legal department led me to remain in my current position.
