Could you share an example of a moment when you came up with an innovation that improved your legal team’s operations without significant cost? 

One of the major changes I introduced was overhauling our trademark maintenance process by using artificial intelligence. We used to depend on external firms for phonetic searches of trademarks, which was pretty expensive. I saw an opportunity to improve this by bringing the phonetic searches in-house and using AI tools. This move not only cut our costs significantly but also made our trademark protection efforts more efficient and consistent. 

In addition to this, over the past three years, I’ve been actively involved in intellectual property training across different departments within Nissan. I’ve also worked on some key global projects, including negotiating and signing distribution contracts for NIBU, which covers 34 Latin American countries. Another highlight was helping redesign our distribution network for the Caribbean islands, which involved working closely with various stakeholders to boost our distribution efficiency in the region. 

On top of that, I’m part of Nissan’s global counterfeiting team, where I stay in constant touch with colleagues around the world. This role involves coordinating our efforts to fight counterfeiting and making sure our brand protection strategies are effectively applied across different markets. 

These experiences have really helped us improve our team’s performance and ensure our legal strategies support the company’s bigger goals. My work on these projects has strengthened our distribution network and reinforced our commitment to growth and excellence. 

What is a cause, whether business-related or not, that you are passionate about, and why? 

A cause that I am deeply passionate about is education and the promotion of legal research. Throughout my life, I’ve always pursued further education and development, which has solidified my belief that education is the key to the future. Currently, I am pursuing a Master’s degree in Law at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and I’ve already completed two postgraduate degrees and several courses abroad. These experiences have reinforced my conviction in the importance of continuous academic and professional development for lawyers. 

Additionally, I had the opportunity to participate in the Discover China program this past July in Beijing, organised by Beijing Foreign Studies University(BFSU). This experience was invaluable, as it not only allowed me to witness firsthand the importance of encouraging legal research and ongoing education but also gave me the chance to meet and exchange ideas with professionals from around the world. These interactions reinforced my belief in the need for continuous academic and professional development, and how it plays a crucial role in shaping more competent and conscious legal professionals. 

Law touches every aspect of our lives—economic, social, and political. Therefore, I believe it is vital to continue supporting legal research and innovation, as it not only strengthens our legal institutions but also contributes to the development of a more just and equitable society. I firmly believe that the education of our children and young people is the foundation upon which the future is built, and as legal professionals, it is our duty to promote and protect this fundamental right.
