What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Over the past year, my legal team has been involved in several high-impact cases. I will briefly talk about three of them.

We successfully secured an injunction against a new mobility regulation in the country’s most important market. This regulation could have resulted in significant financial implications, potentially impacting hundreds of millions of dollars annually. The injunction allows us to continue our operations without interruption.

In another landmark case, we obtained both an injunction and a favorable first instance resolution that now permits Uber to operate at all airports across Mexico.

Additionally, we achieved an injunction that allows Uber to operate freely in Quintana Roo, one of the most complex and challenging markets in the country.

Can you talk about an innovation you have made to legal operations?

An innovative approach I recently led involved responding to a secondary regulation issued by a key regulator, which was clearly against the law and prohibited a product we were planning to launch. Rather than pursuing a lengthy trial process, which would have been complicated by the regulation’s public security considerations, we adopted a strategic approach. By forcing multiple criteria confirmations from various stakeholders and authorities, we effectively demonstrated the inapplicability and unlawfulness of the regulation. This proactive measure allowed us to navigate the legal landscape successfully without resorting to litigation.

What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you care about?

One cause that resonates deeply with me is the fundamental right to mobility. I believe that everyone should have the freedom to move without excessive constraints, and I am particularly passionate about advocating for the reduction of overregulation by the State. Ensuring that mobility is accessible to all is not just a business imperative but a matter of social equity and progress.
