What are the most significant cases or transactions that you have been involved in over the past year?

Some of the marquee transactions that I have lead in the last year at ReNew include: the sale of a 300MW solar project in Rajasthan to IndiGrid for INR 15.5bn, investment by Norfund and KLP for 49% ownership stake in 3 transmission projects in Koppal and Gadag; the sale of 5 ground-mounted solar power plants with a total capacity of 135.4 MWp, in the Karnataka to Technique Solaire; and the sale of 49% equity stake in 403 MW Peak Power project to Gentari.

Based on your experience, what is the key to collaborating successfully with business partners?

In my experience, successful collaboration with business partners hinges on several key factors: Building Personal Relationships, responding in a timely fashion and communicating openly.

Strong personal relationships are essential for effective collaboration. By taking the time to have face-to-face interactions, I’ve found that I can better understand my business partners’ needs, build trust, and foster a more productive working relationship. By prioritising these factors, I have found that I can build stronger partnerships, improve collaboration, and ultimately achieve better business outcomes.

India is an economy that is rapidly growing and expected to be one of the powerhouses of the 21st Century. How do you see the role of GCs there changing in this environment?

As India continues its rapid economic growth and expands its global presence, the role of the general counsel is poised to evolve significantly. GCs will need to broaden their horizons and adapt to the diverse legal and cultural landscapes of different jurisdictions as they are increasingly viewed as strategic business partners. They will continue to play a critical role in identifying and mitigating legal and regulatory risks, now in an environment when technological change will be rapid.
