Grupo Carso is a global conglomerate owned by Mexico’s richest individual Carlos Slim. With a market capitalisation of over $10bn, the conglomerate operates and develops key projects in the industrial, infrastructure, telecommunications and commercial sphere. Among a multitude of deals, Carso’s legal department has recently been praised for closing a $4.2bn contract for the construction of a new airport in Mexico City. As part of a consortium that includes the Spanish companies FCC and Acciona, as well as a number of local Mexican firms, the group will build a four-storey 734,000m2 terminal building on a 430 hectare plot with a capacity of around 125 million passengers per year, along with six runways and 24 water treatment plants.
