José Luis Alberdi is the current legal manager of Grupo Empresarial Ángeles (GEA), a Mexican conglomerate active in range of sectors including multimedia communications, tourism, healthcare and financial services. Demonstrating an ability to act for the company across diverse sectors, the legal team worked on the acquisition of football club Querétaro in 2014, taking it out of administration and formalising the agreement with the Mexican Football Federation. In yet another project which made the news, the legal department was involved in winning a digital TV broadcast concession in 2015 to become Mexico’s third broadcaster. The deal, worth $120m, will see GEA’s media unit, Grupo Imagen Multimedia, running the channel. The deal was particularly significant given that it was part of a regulator’s initiative to increase competition in the sector by breaking the duopoly of TV Azteca and Televisa. Having already demonstrated its exceptional work on these high-profile projects, GEA again relied on its legal team in 2016 when it sold the Camino Real Hotel – El Paso’s largest and most historic hotel – to Miami-based Meyers Group.
