Nokia Mexico was selected by ALTÁN Redes, a start-up Mexican telephone network, to build and support its LTE network across Mexico in a landmark deal negotiated by the legal team....
The Nokia legal team in Mexico has been involved in a wide range of acquisitions and transactions, becoming a trusted partner of the business that is responsible for reviewing all negotiations and deals with clients of the company, assessing and mitigating risks in transactions. Legal manager Elizabeth Chicuellar Casillas has been integral in developing the legal department within the commercial team, saying ‘I made them see legal as part of their team. They now know we are there to support the team in the negotiation and are not just part of the process’. Following the acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent by Nokia in January 2016 for $17bn, the team has continued to focus on corporate and commercial aspects within the merged company. Discussing the ways in which the legal team has impacted the strategic direction of the company, Chicuellar Casillas mentions the collaboration in recent negotiations of frame agreements with key customers in Mexico and ‘the restructuring of the legal entities in order to achieve the goals of the organisation, specifically the efficiency and saving resources through the cluster’.
