Headed by one of Mexico’s most widely recognised corporate legal professionals, Gustavo Armando Robles Luque, Soriana’s legal team is known for its instrumental role in facilitating the expansion of the company in a difficult period marked by a strong reduction in consumption in a highly competitive Mexican market. In particular, the team has received acclaim for supporting Soriana’s 2015 acquisition of a number of assets from fellow Mexican grocery operator Controladora Comercial Mexicana, worth $2.6bn. The swift execution of this and other key transactions by the legal team has strengthened Soriana’s position as the second largest retail chain in the country, only behind Walmart de México. Tasked with providing operational, administrative and business support across all activities of the company and closing all commercial contracts on both national and international level, the team has been praised for being a driving force behind Soriana’s recent strong performance. Marked by a share price rise of approximately 33% and a revenue increase of roughly 30%, 2016 has been the most successful year recorded by the company since 2012.
