What are the most significant cases or transactions that you have been involved in over the past year?

I have updated and supported business lines in reviewing the changes in the new Laws on Residential Housing and Real Estate Business 2023 (effective from 1st August 2024), and their impact on our business activities and operations. I reviewed and revised the relevant agreements with our clients to reflect the changes in law, to ensure our compliance with the laws and risk mitigation.

Based on your experience, what is the key to collaborating successfully with business partners?

For me, the key to collaborating successfully with business partners is to proactively listen and understand their business requirements and expectation, and then provide them feasible advice and solutions with pros and cons analysation, which facilitate them in making informed decisions while still mitigating legal and operational risks.

Which political, economic or regulatory changes have impacted your work the most in the past year?

The new Laws on Residential Housing and Real Estate Business 2023 (effective from 1st August 2024) have impacted my work the most in the past year. I have updated and supported business lines in reviewing the changes in those new Laws, and their impact on our business activities and operations. I reviewed and revised the relevant agreements with our clients to reflect the changes in law, to ensure our compliance with the laws and risk mitigation.

How do you motivate and manage the other members of your legal team well?

I have usually encouraged my team member to work on their own, and gave them necessary guidance for their brainstorming and working towards finding their own solutions. I am expecting them to develop their professional skills via giving them on-the-job training, and inspiring them to work independently and confidently.

What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about, and why?

I am passionate about my legal and compliance works, not only because of my own interest in the legal field, but also due to my observation of the results from my advices and support to business teams, after they win a client contract or a defense in dispute resolution. I am also passionate in contributing my part in upholding our Company’s ethical values and standards of business conduct, which our Company have maintained throughout our history of more than 100 years, and made us one of the 2024 World’s Most Ethical Companies for the eleventh consecutive year (as recognised by Ethisphere, a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices).
