As the largest concrete and cement producer in Mexico, and one of the largest globally, achieving annual global sales of US$13.7bn CEMEX’s legal affairs are led by one of the best teams in the industry. The company has a presence in more than 50 countries, trades in over 100 and employs more than 40,000 people worldwide. CEMEX’s legal division represents that scope with its expertise and remit. Recognised for his leadership, a nominator identifies that Roger Saldaña, general counsel, is ‘a complete attorney, with deep knowledge of the cement and construction industries, and an expert at M&A, finance, joint ventures, business transactions and corporate matters’. Under his direction, the legal team has guided the company through numerous projects in the last year. Notable projects include the supply contract for the cement used to renovate the historic Manuel Ávila Camacho Boulevard in Veracruz in a collaboration with local authorities to reinvigorate the historic tourist attraction. The team has also worked on the supply contract for pavement; on the La Gloria-San Fernando stretch of the Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo highway, the main commercial land route between Mexico and the US, scheduled to be completed over 10 months in 2019. The legal division has been involved in the construction of some of Mexico’s tallest landmarks including the upcoming construction of the Torre Mítikah, expected to become the tallest tower in Mexico City scheduled to begin in 2021.
