Goldcorp Mexico
In December 2018, Goldcorp Mexico, the Mexican division of Canadian based global gold mining company announced the achievement of commercial production at its newest Mexican mine called the Pyrite Leach Project at Peñasquito, a process which required the legal scrutiny of its highly capable in-house legal team. The legal team in Mexico has also been handling the Mexican market related impact of the January 2019 announced merger between Newmont Mining Corporation and Goldcorp, valued at US$10bn, and leading to the creation of Newmont Goldcorp, a combined portfolio creating the largest gold company in the world. Additionally, the team has worked on the opening in 2018 of a pioneering new rural health centre in partnership with the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) serving the community that works at the Peñasquito mine and the surrounding community in
the state of Zacatecas.
