Bio
José María is corporate legal and ethics professional with over 15 years of experience, dedicated to helping organisations build compliance cultures and consolidate strong and effective legal functions. His career has focused on implementing innovative strategies and managing risks, always with a firm focus on regulatory compliance as a fundamental pillar for value creation.
He has an extensive international experience, specifically in Europe and Latin America, participating in multi-country transactions and facing complex legal challenges in various jurisdictions. He has worked extensively in technology litigation and arbitration, as well as in large mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions, offering comprehensive and strategic advice that facilitates smooth and successful transactions.
Impact obsessed, Jose Maria’s goal is to provide legal advice that not only solves legal problems, but also drives the long-term growth and sustainability of organisations following an approach based on deeply understanding the needs and challenges of each company, offering customised legal solutions that support their strategic and operational objectives.
Could you please share the most significant cases or transactions in the LATAM region that you or your legal team have recently been involved in?
In general, the most significant cases are related to supporting the provision of services to clients in the environment of new technologies, not only locally but also participating in business operations in other regions of the world from Latin America, specifically large outsourcing and implementations of SAP and other third-party technologies.
Another of our challenges has been to make our offshoring strategy a reality, to have highly trained resources in Latin America to provide and be part of the provision of IT services in Europe, the support of legal advice in such relevant issues as data protection has been a key factor.
Internally, we have launched a project to better align legal departments and take advantage of synergies between us, with a strong focus on legal operations and the inclusion of artificial intelligence tools in our day-to-day work, which allows us to be faster and more effective when negotiating contracts.
Furthermore, as in previous years M&A activities in these countries are of significant importance to us. In our sector, growth through company acquisitions is a widely practiced approach, which is why our involvement in these transactions is essential across all the jurisdictions where we operate, supported by complementary internal and external teams.
Finally, our team is engaged in various international litigations concerning commercial disputes valued at over 20 million euros. Together with our external advisors, we establish the legal strategy, prepare the case, and lead the defence.
