Federico Steegmann Zaforteza
Executive director, legal, for Latin America and global retail | Johnson Controls
LATAM countries your role covers: Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, México, Panamá, Paraguay, Perú, República Dominicana, Uruguay, Puerto Rico
Could you please share the most significant cases or transactions in the LATAM region that you or your legal team have recently been involved in?
The team has been very impactful this year, completing strategic transactions and driving both organic and inorganic growth initiatives that have positioned the company for its continued success.
What specific challenges have you encountered when managing legal issues related to Latin American markets from a European perspective, and how has your team addressed these challenges?
Ensuring that global initiatives are successfully implemented and also by meeting goals and expectations that are set outside of the region is key for the value-added support we provide as a function. It is our obligation to make sure that these can be met in accordance with our specific regional requirements. I believe the most important thing for the legal function to be effective as business partner is to be proactive with your colleagues (versus only providing advice when asked). As a result, having a diverse team that understands both the big picture and how to implement the company goals regionally, that is involved from the very inception of a project and helping set its roadmap, is what in the end positions us for success in addressing these challenges.
