SAP is a global business operations software company with a major footprint in Mexico. Its high quality legal team is led by general counsel Christian Paredes, and is composed of four senior lawyers, two junior lawyers and support staff, who give support to the different lines of business of the company and, in particular, attend 360° to certain clients. Paredes says this has ‘allowed the team to provide personalised attention to a real understanding of the challenges and business opportunities that exist with those customers’. He adds that key players within the team are Nubia Morales and Yanira Torres. Morales joined the team in 2014 and currently leads the services area, which has provided a fundamental contribution in terms of the growth and development of that area. During the last year she has been in charge of closing and managing one of the company’s biggest projects in conjunction with a public bank in Mexico. She also has been fundamental in other complex deals with the public sector. In the last two years, the team has adapted to new local regulations such as GDPR and local privacy laws, as well as specific regulations regarding health products. Additionally, the team has implemented consulting services in one of the most important and biggest public banks in Mexico. Paredes highlights that the support and leadership of Morales has been fundamental since the challenge of coordinating the work with various internal areas since the beginning of the project has been fundamental. He adds the team’s ethos is to ‘keep it simple in order to get the job done, in this sense, our philosophy is always to execute and the only way to do this is with confidence among us and everyone in the team is capable to deliver’.
