WeWork Mexico opened its first location in Mexico City in September 2016. From that point the legal team has helped open 17 buildings in three cities: 11 in Mexico City, four in Monterrey and two in Guadalajara in 2018. For this growth the legal team has invested long hours and effort in the creation of templates, processes and guidelines, negotiations of membership agreements, service agreements with clients, leases and vendor contracts, as well as training for the business teams, and regulatory matters, all in order to run the business. The legal team is led by Jaime Orvañanos Lascurain, regional general counsel for Latin America and includes María del Mar Cosio, employment and litigation Latin America. Rafael López, construction counsel Mexico, is in charge of all construction matters in Latin America including Mexico and handles negotiations with all contractors for the design, construction and improvements of all new buildings. Rodrigo Flores, corporate counsel Mexico, is in charge of all corporate matters for Mexico, including corporate, commercial and partnerships agreements. Pablo Barrera is responsible for vendor contracts and membership agreements, and negotiating with the company’s clients for Mexico, while Alonso Cadenas is compliance counsel for Latin America including Mexico. The legal team has negotiated numerous large membership agreements with enterprise companies, which represents approximately 40% of the occupancy of WeWork’s buildings. Orvañanos Lascurain highlights that, ‘our culture is to provide high quality, [and be] creative, and result oriented to the business with integrity. We develop this culture by (i) bringing talented and experienced members to the team (ii) delivering high quality work (iii) always looking on the business growth’.
