What are the most significant cases or transactions that you have been involved in over the past year?
We spent quite a bit of time dealing with online fraud cases. We have seen a significant increase in online fraud cases in the country, with the number of cases reported to have doubled in the last 5 years.
We have set up a special task force to deal with this matter. We work with the industry and the regulators to educate the consumers (especially the vulnerable segment), and have conducted many campaigns to create awareness among them.
In addition to the above, we are also working with the industry on a Joint or Shared Responsibility Framework.
Which political, economic or regulatory changes have impacted your work the most in the past year?
Sustainability. Both from economic and regulatory perspective. We worked with our business partners to come up with new (sustainable) products, which in turn require a new set of documentation. We also advised our internal team on the newly introduced disclosure requirements relating to ESG practices.
Are the effects of AI on the legal world overplayed, or underplayed?
Neither. AI is real and here to stay (and evolve). We have no choice but to deal with it.
From a legal perspective, AI will add complications to the question of ownership of creative or artistic work and liability. From an organisational perspective, AI can help lawyers to be more efficient, provided we use the right tools.
