Our legal team has been instrumental in navigating several high-profile matters over the past year, including:
The successful renegotiation of over US$3mn in commercial credit lines, securing favourable repayment terms that support the company’s operational and financial stability in a challenging economic environment; effectively leading the legal processes for admission into the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Mentor-Protégé Program, a critical initiative in collaboration with a prominent federal contractor. We successfully navigated the complex regulatory framework to establish and register a Joint Venture in full compliance with SBA and federal regulations. This Joint Venture has already secured over US$30mn in federal contracts, demonstrating its value and impact in the federal contracting sector.
Which recent political, economic, or regulatory changes have impacted your work the most in the past year?
Operating within a capitalist economy inherently subjects businesses to the direct influence of fluctuations in key economic indicators, such as prime interest rates, inflation, and the consumer price index. Each of these factors plays a significant role in shaping the strategies we implement as management and legal officers.
In Puerto Rico, these economic variables have posed particular challenges, testing our resilience, adaptability, and strategic foresight. For our company, these pressures have reaffirmed the importance of making well-considered decisions that balance immediate needs with long-term sustainability. Despite these challenges, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to steering the company toward successful outcomes.
How does your legal team collaborate with other departments within the company?
Given the highly regulated nature of the federal contracting industry, our company must adhere to a comprehensive framework of federal laws, regulations, and executive orders. Compliance is not optional but a critical component of every facet of our operations.
The legal team plays a pivotal role in ensuring that every step, from the drafting of proposals to the execution of daily operations, aligns with these stringent requirements.
