How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

During periods of instability or crises, I prioritise a proactive and adaptive approach to managing legal aspects. This involves closely monitoring the evolving situation, assessing potential risks, and implementing contingency plans to mitigate those risks. My legal strategy is closely aligned with the broader business strategy to ensure organisational resilience. This includes maintaining open lines of communication with key stakeholders and team members, providing timely legal advice, and ensuring that all actions taken comply with relevant laws and regulations. By doing so, we can navigate challenges effectively and maintain business continuity.

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?

My company has implemented several measures to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations. These include reducing our carbon footprint, promoting energy efficiency, supporting sustainable supply chain practices, and, last but not least, investing in education and training programmes to raise awareness about sustainability.

As Head of Legal, I see my role as crucial in driving and ensuring these sustainable practices. This involves advising on compliance with environmental regulations, drafting and reviewing contracts with sustainability clauses, and fostering a culture of sustainability within the organisation. My role also includes collaborating with other departments to ensure that our sustainability initiatives are aligned with our overall business objectives.

Sustainability is a core value at Capgemini, and we are committed to integrating sustainable practices into every aspect of our business.

What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?

Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and data analytics are having a significant impact on the legal profession. These technologies can streamline legal processes, enhance decision-making, and improve efficiency. To stay updated on these developments, I regularly attend industry conferences, participate in webinars, and engage with professional networks. Additionally, I subscribe to legal and technology publications to stay informed about the latest trends and advancements.

In 2024, I took a significant step in understanding the profound impact of technology on the legal profession by being admitted to the first LLM programme in artificial intelligence at the Law University in Bucharest.

How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?

Diversity and inclusion are top priorities within our company and legal department. We have implemented several initiatives to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment. These include diversity training programmes, mentorship opportunities, and policies that promote work-life balance. By prioritising diversity and inclusion, we create a more dynamic and innovative work environment that benefits everyone.

Additionally, in 2022, I was appointed as a diversity and inclusion ambassador in Romania. It was a real honour and pleasure for me to organise several workshops to promote these important values within our organisation.

In your opinion, what are the main trends that are salient in your country currently (these can be legal, political, economy or business-based)?

Currently, some of the main trends in Romania include the digital transformation of businesses, a greater focus on sustainability, and evolving regulatory landscapes. The legal profession is also seeing a shift towards more technology-driven solutions, with an increasing emphasis on data privacy, cybersecurity, and intellectual property matters.

Additionally, I observe a growing awareness of the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, which is driving changes in corporate policies and practices.
