Bahrain Airport Company (BAC)
Supported by a legal team of four, the Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) is responsible for the development and management of Bahrain International Airport. The recently installed legal team, directed by general counsel Fayyaz Mahmood, has come to play an instrumental role forming opinions within BAC. According to Mahmood, ‘the last two years have witnessed a remarkable change in the performance of our legal team’. The team is credited for developing technical solutions to complex issues such as the internal portal designed to inform all departments of contract expiration dates, ensuring sufficient time to negotiate and renew agreements; an impressive development taking into consideration the large number of leaseholders involved in the commercial running of an airport. Growing as a team and a company, legal have supported BAC through fraud in subsidiary companies; carrying out independent investigations and reporting into state authorities, they successfully overcame the challenges of the imposed disciplinary actions. In the aftermath of the downturn of oil prices the legal team has complied with budget constraints imposed throughout the company while advising on the downsizing and termination of certain projects.
