Based in Jordan, Samsung Electronics’ Levant office has operations in Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria. Managing the legal affairs in such a diverse and, Jordan aside, geopolitically unstable group of countries is no easy task, particularly with a small and recently established legal function, but general counsel Mohannad Al Nabulsi and his team have been at the forefront of ensuring the risks of high-growth markets do not outweigh their rewards. They manage the drafting, reviewing, validating and maintaining of all company’s contracts including distributors, vendors and leases. A large part of the team’s strategy for staying on top of the many difficult issues that come their way is ensuring legal representation is present at weekly company-level management meetings. This has helped the team familiarise itself with the risk and reward drivers across the company, enabling them to contribute in commercial and technical business decisions.
