Elizabeth Matthews is a C-suite executive and global business leader with over twenty-five years of board-level experience, functional experience, and reporting lines that included government affairs, insurance/risk management, regulatory, technology, governance, and ethics/compliance.
Elizabeth’s career began in the legal support of significant consumer-facing companies (Home Depot, the National Football League, and Starbucks) and transitioned to international energy then aviation. Elizabeth currently serves on the Executive Leadership Team and as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Head of Government Affairs, and Corporate Secretary at Bristow Group, a publicly traded $1.22B revenue company (NYSE: VTOL) that provides aviation services to the offshore energy industry as well as aviation search and rescue services to several countries around the world. She leads Bristow Group’s legal as well as international and domestic government affairs team, which is responsible for influencing public policy in the geographies in which the company does business (including Africa, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Europe). She also leads the company’s risk management/insurance team that manages insurance strategy and claims. She is responsible for the company’s governance and serves as the executive sponsor for the Board ESG Committee.
Prior to joining Bristow Group, Elizabeth was Deputy Managing Director, Executive Vice-President, and General Counsel, part of the C-suite for French energy major TotalEnergies’ US businesses (NYSE: TTE). TotalEnergies’ US businesses included renewable energy (wind, solar, and biofuels), exploration and production, refining and chemicals, gas and power, marketing and services, and trading and shipping, and employed over 7,000 people. In this role, in addition to serving as General Counsel, Elizabeth was part of the executive team responsible for the strategic direction and management of the company, focusing on issues such as the energy transformation, sustainability, safety, talent management, succession planning, and environmental and corporate social responsibility. Prior to joining TotalEnergies, Elizabeth held leadership positions at Chevron (NYSE: CVX).
Elizabeth currently serves on the National Petroleum Council, to which she was nominated by the Secretary of Energy. The National Petroleum Council is a federally chartered and privately funded advisory committee with the purpose of advising, informing, and making recommendations to the Secretary of Energy with respect to any matter relating to oil and natural gas or the oil and gas industries.
