How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organization’s resilience?
In recent years, resilience and long-term sustainability have become fundamental to our legal team’s approach, particularly in the face of a challenging and evolving political and legal landscape. As Deputy General Counsel Europe, my role involves balancing legal considerations with strategic geopolitical factors, which has made our work both more complex and more impactful. This alignment with Huawei’s broader business strategy is essential. Our legal team serves as a strategic partner, ensuring that legal risks are managed proactively while supporting the company’s efforts to establish itself as a trusted and reputable corporate citizen in Europe.
What are the main cases or transactions that you have been involved in recently?
Given the current geopolitical environment, I have taken a central role in managing several high-profile legal cases across various EU member states. These cases have required significant attention and collaboration at the European Legal Leadership level, focusing on protecting the company’s legal interests within a complex regulatory framework. This often involves public and international law, as well as European and constitutional law. The issues addressed span multiple industries and domains, with each case highlighting the importance of legal adaptability and strategic foresight in safeguarding the company’s operations and reputation.
How do you measure the impact of ESG initiatives on the company’s overall performance and reputation?
From a legal perspective, I see ESG initiatives as a dynamic and evolving area that requires close attention to regulatory developments. Our role goes beyond ensuring compliance; it is about actively supporting strategic decision-making. This includes providing legal guidance to design robust compliance frameworks and advising on strategies that align ESG goals with sustainable business growth. In the renewable energy sector, our legal input drives innovation while ensuring alignment with emerging regulations, ultimately strengthening the company’s legal resilience.
