Career Biography

Derick Korff is a highly skilled in-house legal counsel with over 14 years extensive experience in property rights and acquisition, mining rights, mergers and acquisitions, litigation and general legal advisory. Currently serving as the Manager of Legal Africa at South32, he offers strategic legal advice to the Africa Operations while based in the company’s head offices Perth. Derick has successfully managed numerous high-risk applications, negotiations, and complex legal proceedings, demonstrating a strong ability to assess legal risks and provide guidance across various internal client groups.

Known for his detail-oriented and results-driven approach, Derick excels in high-pressure environments, effectively juggling multiple projects while ensuring timely and favourable business outcomes. His commitment to quality and collaboration, coupled with his expertise in stakeholder management, positions him as a leader within his field. Derick holds a Master of Law in Environmental Law from the University of Witwatersrand and an LLB from the University of Pretoria, along with a Certificate in Prospecting and Mining Law earned with distinction. Derick also recently completed his conversion studies which will enable him to apply to court to practice law in Western Australia. With a focus on delivering commercial objectives, he provides high-quality legal solutions that support business growth and sustainability.
