Career Biography
Mark Stafford is the Group Head of Legal for the Life Healthcare Group and has been with the Group for 17 years. Mark holds a master’s in law degree (corporate law) and graduated with an MBA degree from the Gordon Institute of Business

Prior to joining Life Healthcare, Mark was Group Legal Counsel for Aspen Pharmacare, where he moved to from Cliffe Dekker Attorneys, a Johannesburg-based law firm in 2002.

Mark’s five-strong team supports the entire group and has been widely recognised as one of the nation’s leading in-house legal functions, praised particularly for its innovative approach.

The legal team at Life Healthcare maintains extremely strong ties with the executive management of the Group, where Mark is both a member of the Senior Leadership Group and a member of the Investment Steering Committee, which is located at one of the top levels of the Group’s structure.

In 2024, Mark and his team managed the legal requirements in relation to the disposal by the Group of the Alliance Medical Group Limited, which was based on an enterprise value of GBP910 million. Alliance Medical Group is Europe’s leading independent provider of imaging services operating across the continent – in the UK, Germany, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway and Spain. This deal won the Dealmakers deal of the year award in 2024.

On his team’s approach, Mark comments that, overall: “the legal team facilitates the achievement of the strategic objectives of the company through the innovative structuring of agreements that allow the Group to maximise its goals’.”
