How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

Periods of instability or crisis in or country looks like the normality. Each legal case or issue I take it with great seriousness and complete dedication. Nothing can be considered small or unimportant. Any legal problem must be addressed, analyzed in depth, and all possible solutions must be sought not only from a legal view but also from a global business perspective. And after closing the problem, it is important to follow up later to make sure that there are no unwanted after-effects.

In times of crisis is when in-house lawyers must work together with the company’s crisis management team, in order to understand the problems that must be faced in the crisis and everyone is aligned with how to solve them.

A recommendation, although it may seem very simple and basic in times of crisis, is not to make hasty decisions and rather to take as much time as necessary and calmly, so as not to make strategies or decisions without seeing the whole future picture.

What do you think sets you apart from other in-house counsel?

First of all, it would not be fair to compare myself with other colleagues’ in-house lawyers, because there are many, and I respect each one of them.

However, I think that in my case two things have helped me a lot: studying and cultivating the ability to reason, this is something that is not necessarily innate in people but that can be studied, practiced and applied in a scientific way; and, studying the national culture and corporate culture of the country of origin of the company’s investors, which allows for easier adaptation and understanding of corporate objectives.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

In addition to obviously keeping up to date with new technologies or legal tools such as artificial intelligence, in my opinion, a modern in-house counsel must have the ability to express their ideas clearly, simply, and logically, as well as have the ability to understand others even when the other party does not communicate in the same way; must keep up to date with the legislation in general and of course even more with the legislation related to its company; must clearly know all the details of the operation and administration of the company; must keep up to date with local and international news that may be related to the company; must have the ability to anticipate problems and identify risks and solve them effectively and efficiently; must adapt to changes, work under pressure, show results. In summary, a modern in-house counsel needs to add value and troubleshoot.
