Can you discuss your or your company’s efforts relating to renewability, sustainability, or other environmentally-friendly activities?
At Danone, sustainability isn’t a side project—it’s embedded in the way we do business. Our global strategy, the Danone Impact Journey, is designed to ensure we operate responsibly across all the geographies where we’re present. This approach is built around three core pillars:
1. Health through Food and Hydration
As part of Danone’s dual mission, we invest heavily in scientific research to ensure our product portfolio contributes to better health outcomes. From early life nutrition to hydration, we focus on offering products that support healthier lifestyles.
2. Preservation and Regeneration of Nature
We are deeply committed to environmental protection, with targeted efforts in mitigating climate change, safeguarding biodiversity, and protecting water resources. These initiatives are rooted in long-term partnerships and regenerative practices that aim to leave a positive impact on the ecosystems we depend on.
3. Developing Thriving People and Communities
Danone has a strong legacy of social impact, which is reflected in our organizational culture and the way we empower purpose-driven brands and communities. Whether through local sourcing, fair employment practices, or community programs, we strive to create shared value everywhere we operate.
Why are in-house lawyers well-placed to drive change in their organisations?
In-house lawyers are uniquely positioned to be enablers of responsible growth. We help turn business strategy into actionable, compliant plans—ensuring the organization not only has the legal license to operate but also the resilience to thrive in changing environments.
By taking a proactive and pragmatic approach, we can navigate challenges in real time, working side by side with multidisciplinary teams. Our ability to tailor legal solutions to evolving contexts makes us key drivers of transformation. Ultimately, legal teams don’t just manage risk—they foster the adaptability and foresight companies need to grow sustainably.
It can be challenging to measure a company’s track record in environmentally friendly behavior. What, in your opinion, has mostly been missed in discussions about how green a company is?
One of the biggest gaps is the absence of a clear, tailored roadmap. Not all companies have a well-defined strategy for becoming environmentally friendly, and without that foundation, tracking real progress becomes almost impossible.
What’s needed is a clear plan with measurable KPIs—actions that are specific, realistic, and aligned with the nature of the business. A one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work when it comes to sustainability. Companies must build metrics that reflect their operational realities and long-term impact goals, and commit to transparently reporting on them.
