Peru LNG’s legal department is responsible for handling all legal issues related to the business, including its operator Hunt LNG Operating Company, encompassing more than 370 people across a variety of different potential topics. The legal team is composed of the legal manager Solange Cuadros, one senior lawyer in Sandra Tavara, two junior lawyers, Masiel Ortiz and Maria Fernanda Silva, one legal intern, Cesar Martinez-Vargas, and legal administrative assistant Janett Saavedra. Peru LNG’s legal department is well known for having high standards in every task that it is responsible for. ‘This is a consequence of having a cohesive team focused on finding the best results for the company. Peru LNG’s legal department cares about being a strategic partner of internal clients of the company’ explains Cuadros. It is with this in mind that it is able to retain a close relationship to all departments of the business, allowing it to know more about the business and giving the team the opportunity to be proactive and intervene early in legal matters. This allows the legal team to prevent conflicts and provide solutions that are consistent with the applicable legal framework. ‘The strategy is to avoid or minimise legal contingencies, and the legal department participates in the decisions taken by the company, being part of the team and not just a “supportive area”’, adds Cuadros. In March 2018, Peru LNG officially started operations of its liquefied natural gas truck loading facility (TLF) which allows the supplying of this fuel, via cistern trucks, to regasification stations in northern and southern Peru. ‘This project has a high social impact in Peru, given that through the TLF, liquefied natural gas could be supplied to different regions and more than 200,000 homes in the north and south of Peru will have access to residential natural gas, and thousands of drivers will have access to vehicular natural gas’, explains Cuadros. The legal department provided support in obtaining permits and the negotiation of the contract for the implementation of this significant investment.
