Describing themselves as ‘business orientated lawyers’ who consistently add value to business operations, the Repsol legal team acts as a central part of the energy giant’s operations, aiming to be creative in providing legal advice. ‘We are normally involved in the projects from the very beginning, advising about potential contingencies, trying to mitigate them and helping with the legal structure need for the project’, says the Peru E&P legal manager Marcela Villavicencio, who has amassed 20 years of experience in the energy industry. Villavicencio manages a team of two senior lawyers who are part of the Peru legal services direction, as well as administrative staff and two interns. One of the senior lawyers is responsible of exploration M&A exploration matters, local community affairs and constitutional actions. The other senior lawyer handles issues related to supply chain contracts and one of the main projects of Repsol this year; the construction of a compression plant administrative sanctioning procedures. The legal team has also been responsible for legal matters pertaining to the construction, operation and maintenance of a compression plant and Sagari facilities and flow lines as part of the B57 Development Plan. This involved the negotiation and execution of a complex contracts and a multi-stakeholder issues, including local community affairs and constitutional actions. ‘I think that [the] Repsol E&P legal management of Peru [is] distinguished by its passion in performing our work together with a solid technical basis and experience in the oil and gas industry. We look for excellence and to be the best in our field’, says Villavicencio.
