What are the projects that you are most proud of working on over the past 12 months?
Over the past year, two projects particularly stand out to me for their meaningful contribution and tangible impact.
The first was the successful introduction of a digital board portal, a project aimed at transforming how our board shares and manages confidential information. Recognising the increasing importance of secure, efficient, and compliant digital collaboration, this new system not only improved our governance processes but also significantly reduced administrative overhead and strengthened our data protection practices.
The second project I am particularly proud of was my involvement in supporting our team through the process of launching the new LuxFLAG Social Impact Label. This label addresses a clear market need to formally recognise investment funds dedicated to social impact, thereby encouraging more intentional, sustainable investment practices.
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
In periods of uncertainty and instability, I prioritise staying rigorously informed about emerging legal and regulatory developments, particularly in rapidly evolving areas like sustainable finance. For example, with recent developments such as the introduction of the Omnibus regulation, it has been critical to thoroughly understand not only the direct implications for our organisation but also the broader impacts on our clients and stakeholders. My approach involves proactive risk management and ongoing engagement with industry experts and regulatory bodies.
What strategies do you employ to ensure the successful digital transformation of a legal department while maintaining compliance with your country’s data protection laws?
The key to successfully transforming a legal department digitally is choosing the right technology, but always with compliance and data protection in mind. A good example of this is our recent move to automate certain processes, including introducing the digital board portal, which helps us securely handle confidential information.
We take great care to select technology that meets Luxembourg’s strict data protection laws, and we also provide regular training to make sure our team understands how to use these new tools properly. By consistently emphasising security and compliance, we’ve smoothly shifted to more digital workflows without compromising on our responsibilities.
How can general counsel foster a corporate culture that supports ESG principles and compliance across all levels of the organisation?
At LuxFLAG, we’re fortunate to already have a strong culture around ESG and sustainability thanks to our dedicated and talented team. But even in an environment where ESG is part of our everyday work, clear and regular communication remains essential.
To help keep everyone informed and motivated, I send out newsletters every two months covering important ESG updates and insights from industry leaders and our stakeholders. I also encourage open conversations and knowledge-sharing across the organisation. By making sure ESG topics are discussed openly and regularly, we help everyone feel involved and connected to our shared sustainability goals.
